Radical stories. Caribbean Voices, A Living Legacy

Rekindling Nello James is a project by Rekindle School, celebrating the legacy and surfacing the untold stories of the Nello James Centre, which served South Manchester’s African and Caribbean communities. Named after Trinidadian historian, activist, writer and socialist CLR “Nello” James, the centre provided a place for radical education, youth work, support groups, activism and more. We worked with Rekindle to build a microsite to celebrate and preserve the voices, culture, and radical spirit of these communities.

We worked to translate the striking visual identity over to an engaging digital experience. Utilising the bold colours synonymous with Manchester’s African and Caribbean communities, we used paper textures to add depth to the website.

I am really glad I was put in touch with Oxygen as I had a complex project and they helped me to define and deliver my vision in a really strong way. Both Tim and Suzie from Oxygen were friendly and knowledgable and made the process of creating and finalising the website so seamless. I really recommend them!
